Dear Fellow Alumni,

Another year has passed and many changes have occurred in the world.  We have a new President who will have many challenges during his first term in office.  As President Obama begins his first year in office, I hope that he and Congress can work together to help our nation move forward.  Hopefully they can restore our confidence and turn our economy around.  On the local level, Lake Placid Central School has a new Superintendent, Mr. Jim Donnelly, Jr. and the Middle/High School has a new Assistant Principal, Ms. Katherine Mulderig.

As always, please remember to update your address changes either through mail or email.  We want to stay in touch!  Please help us out. 

Winter Carnival

This years 66th Winter Carnival was a fantastic event and we should be proud that it continues.  Our Winter Carnival is the oldest continuously run High School Winter Carnival in the country.  Some of the events have changed, but the spirit of the original games lives on.

The Archbishop for this year’s Coronation was our own Ms. Beverly Reid (Class of 1950).  Thank you to everyone involved for carrying on a tradition that makes our school and community unique.

Broomball was moved to the daytime this year, and thus resulted in no time being left for the Faculty vs. Alumni Broomball game.  If you have any thoughts or suggestions on the matter, please let me know.  I am open to anything you want to propose.

Alumni Scholarship

Last year we awarded two $1000 scholarships to deserving Alumni.  Our raffle ticket sales directly fund this scholarship.  Thank you to all of you who buy our raffle tickets.  Last years recipients were Miss Shannon Abbott Class of 2005(James Madison) and Ms. Joanna Smith Class of 2006(Gordon College).  Full Scholarship information is available on our website,

Here are the basic requirements:

1. Submit (1) letter of recommendation, preferably a professor or an employer who can attest to his/her intention of continuing his education.

2. Submit proof of his/her cumulative grade point average and enrollment.

3. Applicant must submit an essay or letter explaining why he/she should be awarded the scholarship.

4. All completed requirements must be received by May 15.

Applications are judged based on the quality of the application, completeness of the application and the need of the applicant.

Honored Alumni

     At last years banquet we honored Ms. Cornelia Bonsignore (Miss. Bon) and Dr. George Hart for their many accomplishments.  Through their work, they have contributed immensely to bettering their community. 

     Our hope is to continue this tradition at all future Alumni Banquets.  To help ensure this endeavor continues, we are asking our fellow Alumni to send us your suggestions.  We are looking for Alumni who have made a lasting, positive impact on their community.  

We ask that you submit the name(s) for consideration and your reasons for nominating the Alumni.  You can send suggestions to the PO Box or you can email them to dmayberry@lakeplacidcsd.net.  All requests will be considered.  Our intention is to honor two Alumni each year.

Ellis Jacques Memorial Golf Tournament

The golf tournament will take place on Saturday June 27, 2009 at Craig Wood Golf Course.  The format is the usual 4-person scramble (you make your own teams).  The cost of the Tournament is $20 a person (which includes Skins).  There is also a $20 greens fee for non- members of Craig Wood and golf cart is extra.  Please call Craig Wood directly for Tee Times at 518-523-9811.

Through the efforts of our technology department here at school, a tremendous amount of work has been done.  I would like to especially thank Olaf Carlson and Tom Dodd for their assistance with the website. The Lake Placid Alumni Association is looking for class pictures to put on the alumni site. You can email photos, send them in on a CD or DVD or the Alumni Association will scan and return your class photos.
